obama on journalism

President Obama articulates the basic problem of current journalism:

Mr. Obama said he noted the trend. “I am concerned that if the direction of the news is all blogosphere, all opinions, with no serious fact-checking, no serious attempts to put stories in context, that what you will end up getting is people shouting at each other across the void but not a lot of mutual understanding,” the President said.

Tonight he makes an appearance on Letterman, first time for a sitting president.

    Front page article of the Times today quotes Obama from his numerous TV appearances last night:

    “I do think part of what’s different today is that the 24-hour news cycle and cable television and blogs and all this, they focus on the most extreme elements on both sides…”

    “The media loves to have a conversation about race…”
