two film recommendations

Add a couple of movies to your holiday viewing if you are interested in the issues raised Tuesday with Donna Decesare.  In “Standard Operating Procedure,” images-11documentarian Erroll Morris (“Thin Blue Line”, etc.) examines Abu Ghraib prison scandal in Iraq, and in the feature film “Valley of Elah,” imagesTommy Lee Jones stars in a murder mystery involving his son, peer pressure and fall out from service in Iraq.  Both films show how terrible deeds can be performed by perfectly normal people, illustrating what scholar Hannah Arendt has called the “banality of evil.”
