the new watchdogs

Journalism will continue to happen in other than commercial news organizations, providing a valuable source of oversight in cities like San Diego, St. Louis, and Minneapolis-St. Paul.  These non-profit web-based watchdogs won’t replace the big city newsrooms, but they help take up some of the slack.  Arguably, their freedom from major advertisers may make these new operations bolder in going after problems in the community, which in turn forces the commercially-based media to follow suit. Voice of San Diego is one example:
