A business report in yesterday’s Times considers how important the news can be to business firms, particularly in the velocity of news that has an impact before the truth can emerge.

The episode was a reminder of how negative news, rumors and even outdated articles can travel at lightning speed, with some investors selling before pausing to check facts.
